more predictive policing using both data and technology to help us do that. and then, of course, i think the most important part is to organize our communities and work with community-based organizations, families, religious groups, and everybody that's on the ground to find more ways to intervene in violent behavior out there and utilize resources such as education systems, our community jobs programs, others that might allow people to go in different direction. the unfortunate and very tragic incident in connecticut in sandy hook elementary school of course heightened everybody's awareness of what violence can really be all about. and as we have been not only responding, reacting to this national tragedy that i think president obama has adequately described as broken all of our hearts, and in every funeral that has taken place, for those 20 innocent children and six innocent adults in the school districts, and school administrators, we obviously have shared in that very tragic event, all of us. it has touched everybody across this country. san francisco is no different. and i hav

. >>> good morning, i'm carol costello. jobless claims fall to a four-year low. alison kosik joins us from the new york stock exchange to tell us more. >> this winds up being a big improvement for jobless claims number falling 12,000 last week to 350,000, and what that means is that the level now is close to the lowest level since the early part of the recession, so it really shows these layoffs are slowing. something interesting has been happening in the past several weeks. the claims numbers have spiked, and then have slowly been settling down and that was mostly because of superstorm sandy. so today with the level at this more palatable sort of level at 350,000 the big question is will today be just a blip or will this be the beginning of a trend, and that's what you really want to see. you want to see the level of layoffs continuing to at least stay the same and obviously you want to see them come down but at the same time you also want to see hiring happening and that's where that government jobs report that we focus on once a month, that's where that comes into play. we're going to g

a couple of years ago and through the training, they never used a gun and had a gun in the class. i worry about the training that they have to actually fire the firearm and to use it. without endangering others as well. so there things i'm concerned about, having a concealed weapon on campus of course is -- we have strict policies that relate to that to ensure everyone is safe and a teacher if they violated that policy because they don't want to put others at risk either. >> what about having the weapon in school and having a kid possibly have access to it. that opens the door for accidents. >> absolutely. that's one of the concerns. so our policy is that it has to be concealed and has to be out of sight. you have to have a permit. still a teacher can be overwhelmed by a student and they were carrying a gun. there is definitely -- the safest place is note to have a gun obviously. i can understand on the teacher's side as well that -- and husbands and spouses and teachers who are concerned about the spouse going to school and teachers concerned about themselves and their students. i can un

. terry mcsweeney has more. >> reporter: this guy delivered mail for the u.s. postal service in san mateo county, a lot of mail never got to the mailboxes where they were suppose go the person accused is 38-year-old row people -- romeo natan of san bruno. prosecutors say he's a first class felon, stole 3,000 pieces of mail information from that mail for credit cards, got 'em then went shopping. >> you and i as victims may not know there was a credit card envelope taken out of my mail and somebody fill it out and put my name on it and got a credit card >> it is sad because they are trusted to handle those things. it is bad enough people are stealing packages off porches, now you have to worry about the postal service, disheartening. allegedly gave credit cards to at least three of his friends. he appears in video at a target store using stolen credit cards, natan has pleaded not guilty he's being held on $150,000 bail. he will be in court today. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. >>> the san francisco woman charged with killing a pedestrian during a hit-and-run at twin peaks will be back in court
